Lysosomes are membrane-bound organelles found in most animal cells (except red blood cells). Lysosomes are spherical vesicles containing hydrolases capable of breaking down different kinds of biomolecules, including proteins, nucleic acids, carbohydrates, lipids, and cellular debris. They are known to contain over 60 different enzymes that are active in acidic conditions. Thus, lysosomes act as the cell's waste disposal system by digesting unwanted substances in the cytoplasm. The Lysosome Isolation Kit (LIK001) mainly enriches or purifies lysosomes from animal tissues and cultured cells by differential centrifugation and density gradient centrifugation.
